Frequently asked questions
What voltage are most e-bike batteries?
Most e-bikes use 36V or 48V packs. In our index, 28 models are 24V, 675 models are 36V, 9 models are 36.3V, 38 models are 37V. 52V packs are common on high-performance and conversion builds.
How big is a typical e-bike battery?
The median e-bike battery in our index is 482 Wh. Commuter bikes usually carry 400 to 700 Wh; cargo and long-range bikes often have 700 Wh or more, sometimes across two packs.
Can I put a different battery on my e-bike?
Usually yes, if the replacement matches your original nominal voltage, fits the same mount or baseplate, uses the same discharge connector, and its BMS current rating is at least your controller limit. Higher Ah at the same voltage adds range. A higher voltage can damage your controller.
How long does an e-bike battery last?
Most lithium-ion e-bike packs keep about 70 to 80 percent of their capacity after 500 to 1,000 full charge cycles, which is roughly 3 to 5 years of regular riding. Heat, storage at full charge, and deep discharges shorten that.
